ITC Infotech India Ltd.

This was my first company off-campus. The first round contained apti, logical reasoning and very few technical questions. There was no negative marking. I was able to clear the first round.
This was followed by an interview which was more of HR type and it didn’t turn too technical as such. Here goes a glimpse of the same.

HR – Tell me about yourself.

Me - I’m Pradeep Kumar DS from Chintamani, a small town in Kolar district. I did my schooling there only in Kishora Vidya Bhavana. I used to be the topper of the class. I’d got a good score in 10th. I’d good interest in Maths and Science. So, I took Science as my subject in PUC. I did my PU in Venkatadri Independent PU College in the same place. My aim was to get a good rank in CET. I dint have any idea about CET and its preparation. I had my mentors in the college who gave me information about this and I started my preparation right from beginning in the first year itself. I used to sleep just for 4-5 hours and finally could make it!!! I got 745 as my engineering rank !!! I chose Computer science branch in SJCE,Mysore. I’m keeping up my performance consistent along with some concern towards activities other than academics.

HR – Tell me what you know about testing or software engg.

Me – (I just gave him glimpse of my software engg. Book – Thanks to Ian Sommerville)

HR - What are your other activities?

Me – I’m an active member of CSI and all events in the campus. CSI refers to Computer Society of India. I participate in all sort of technical and management events conducted in college fests. First year I hadn’t much idea about all the events. So, I volunteered the events in order to gain information about the events. From second year I volunteered and participated as well. Apart from this I read inspirational books and self help literature during my free time as a part of my personality development.

HR – What did you learn from reading these books ?

Me – I learnt how to manage my time. I learnt to be positive. I improved my vocabulary.

HR – What have you done to help others?

Me - I have helped my friends and juniors. I have guided them in academics. I have written an article regarding placements. It helps juniors so that THEY CAN LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES.

Round 2
The second round was purely technical. It was conducted at SAP labs.
Questions were on –

1.Software Engg. ( SDLC, Testing, V model, etc.)

2. Data Structures (Searches , Sorts, Recursive functions of factorial, sorts, etc.)

3. C++ ( Encapsulation, Inheritance, Polymorphism basics)

4. DBMS ( Normalization SQL Basics, etc)

5. Final Year Project (Mine was “Crane simulator using OGRE in Visual C++”)

I was posed many questions on my project. Be thorough with your final projects. Highlight points that relate to new technologies in your project. Prove that you realized the worth of the project and its learning scope. Concentrate on how you utilized the learning opportunity. Link it to the subjects you have studied in your course. This is the secret to present yourselves well.

Round 3

I cleared my 2nd round. The 3rd round was writing programs, HR, and puzzles.

Programs like swap variables without using third variable, reversing linked list, reversing sentence without reversing words, etc

Puzzles like meeting of trains, speed, etc. Also questions like -- 3 vessels 8 ltr, 5ltr, 3ltr are given, 8ltr vessel is filled with water. Using 3 vessels. Divide water into 4 and 4 ltrs…etc

HR questions were simple ones. (tell me about yourself, career plans, etc)

After this was a telephonic round. It was just a formal round which infact was not needed. Finally I got a chance to serve I3L (ITC Infotech India Limited) on september 15 ( Engineer’s Day) 2009.

Now I’m deputed in SAP Labs India Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore for a project as a Performance Test Engineer :)
